Former Te Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira is challenging Northland MP Matt King to spend the day with him on COVID-19 community checkpoints in the rohe.
Mr King is calling for a stop to the checkpoints, saying constituents are being harassed and intimidated.
Mr Harawira says the former police officer knows the checkpoints are not illegal, and the organisers have been working with police to ensure they are running consistent with the law.
He says Mr King hasn’t talked to him, which is why he is making a public offer.
"Any time you want to spend a day on a checkpoint, let me know. You can get a sense for yourself how well they're run, how much support they are getting from Māori and Pākehā. The only people who are completing is from people who aren't resident, who want to go touring round like it is holiday time. It's not holiday time. It's lockdown time. If you're not from here, don’t come here," Mr Harawira says.
