The Federation of Maori Authorities is looking to develop the future leaders and managers of Maori asset owning organisations.

The federation starts its 29th annual meeting in Hamilton tomorrow.

President Traci Houpapa says high on the agenda will be a partnership with Te Putea Whakatupu, the trust spawned out of the Maori fisheries settlement that offers scholarships and mentoring for Maori tertiary students.

She says there is an opportunity to match the best graduates with Maori organisatons like Whakatu, Wairarapa Moana and Parininihi ki Waitotara Inc.

"We’re also talking about the medium and small Maori-owned enterprises that are critical to regional economic development and so happy to talk metrics, happy to talk free trade, strategic policy, economic policy. This year FOMA is resetting its focus on building a legacy of future FOMA leaders," Ms Houpapa says.
