The seige of Waerenga a Hika 150th anniversary.

Tuesday and Wednesday one of the most “catastrophic” events in local history, which left 82 people dead, will be commemorated.

Te Aitanga a Mahaki iwi will mark the 150th anniversary of the siege of Waerenga a Hika, when 200 colonial troops with 300 Maori allies, predominantly Ngati Porou, attacked the pa.
