Whangarei MP Shane Reti has got involved in a dust up with constituents over the by-election in the neighbouring Northland seat.

Pipiwai residents group member Alex Wilson is accusing Dr Reti of bullying her by saying she should “hold her breath” until after the by-election about the problem of dust from unsealed roads.

She released a recorded phone call in which he claimed he had got the issue before cabinet, but the tone of her emails could cause ministers to back off.

Labour’s transport spokesperson Phil Twyford says that turns out to be a lie, with Transport Minister Simon Bridges telling parliament no proposal had done to cabinet.

He says bullying and lying to constituents should not be tolerated, and the Prime Minister should discipline his MP.
