Iwi talks bearing fruit for Crown
Meanwhile, Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia says the effort the government has put in talking with iwi leaders on management for the past four years seems to have paid off.
She says National has put in a lot of work on water.
“One off the difficulties is that with the government meeting with iwi independent of one another and sometimes a few of them together, it does enable the government to actually carry out their own programme because it’s very clear that some iwi are agreeing with them,” Mrs Turia says.
The Maori Party says it’s in for the long haul, and won’t be quitting the government over the issue.
