Māori the landlords in pre-treaty drama
A producer for the new movie by Once Were Warriors director Lee Tamahori says the filming was anchored by te ao Māori, especially for location shooting in Northland and Auckland.

The film The Convert, is the story of an English lay preacher Thomas Munro (Guy Pearce) who lands in New Zealand, then still dominated by Māori. Settling in a frontier town, Munro must deal with a new landscape, suspicious settlers and his violent past.
- Radio Waatea is Auckland's only Māori radio station that provides an extensive bi-lingual broadcast to its listeners. Based at Nga Whare Waatea marae in Mangere, it is located in the middle of the biggest Māori population in Aotearoa.
