Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei marks formative occupation
Several hundred protest veterans and the generations who followed have come together to mark the end of the occupation of Takaparawhau, Bastion Point, 45 years ago today.

Hineani Melbourne is at Takaparawhau for the anniversary of the eviction of the so called Bastion Point protestors on May 25th 1978 by Police and the Military after spending over 506 days camped to stop the development of their whenua by the Government for high-end housing.

In 1978 on May 25th so called protesters were evicted by Police and the Armed Forces from Bastion Point. It was a scene of raw government power, against a small pacifist Māori group fighting to retain their land.
