Māori language in schools

Historian Ross Calman takes out the Margaret Mahy Book of the Year for his children’s book on the Treaty of Waitangi, aiming to inspire future generations to see the Treaty as a unique and celebrated part of Aotearoa’s history.

Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka says te reo Māori is central to Aotearoa’s identity, responding to the Education Minister’s move to strip kupu Māori from early reading books. He urges inclusion of te reo in all learning resources.
