A new wāhine-led carving space, Te Ana o Hine, has opened at Te Tuhi in Pakuranga. Artist Hollie Tawhiao says the space challenges tradition and creates a safe, empowering environment for women in whakairo.

Te Ana o Hine at Te Tuhi is a wāhine-led carving space within Tāmaki Makaurau art gallery Te Tuhi, born out of the need to create a safe and supportive environment for wāhine taketake and others who encounter barriers in the carving world.

She has been selected as only one of 37 finalists out of a record 451 entries in the biennial Adam Portraiture award. The award is one of the country’s longest running art prizes which has a cash prize of $20,000.
