The gang legislation. The focus of the Bill is to reduce the harmful behaviours engaged in by gangs and disincentivise gang membership. It will give Police a range of new powers to disrupt and crack down on gang crime. The Bill—prohibits the display of gang insignia in public places by creating a new criminal offence

Gang Legislation Bill passes first reading

The Parliamentary Justice Committee is calling for submissions on the Gangs Legislation Amendment Bill, following an impassioned debate in the House last week. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says the legislation is a crack- down on gangs but it also admits its a breach of their rights. Claudette Hauiti compiled this report
