To reduce the risk of the freshwater gold clam spreading, temporary biosecurity regulations are being introduced for Lake Ōkataina in the Bay of Plenty. A Controlled Area Notice (CAN) under the Biosecurity Act, means the lake will be off-limits to boating and fishing from October 1 through October 31.
