Orange Sky, a not-for-profit offering cleaning services for the homeless, is moving its South Auckland base from Wiri to Manurewa.
Announced yesterday, the move is due to the closure of the Butterbean Motivation (BBM) Foodshare, which will close after Christmas.
The Orange Sky-BBM partnership began in March, and now the laundry pod—a standalone unit equipped with two washing machines and two dryers—will be operated by Maranga Fanau near the Elim Christian Centre on Mahia Road.
Orange Sky Senior Impact Manager Kat Doughty says the best part of their mahi is connecting with the whānau who use the services.
“Generosity in sharing their stories and just how resilient and strong they are, it’s an incredible part of our service. So yes, we do the free laundry, yes, we provide hot showers, but it’s a human connection part which is really important,” says Doughty.
The Orange Sky service will be available to community members Monday through Friday from 9:30 am – 11:30 am and 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
