Last Friday, TIPENE reopened after a 25-year hiatus at the boarding school’s Pukekohe campus.
Formerly known as St Stephen’s School, it was originally founded in 1844 as an Anglican boarding school for Māori boys.
It closed in 2000 due to funding cuts and health and safety concerns related to student bullying.
Tipene is now categorized as a charter school, one of eight opening for Term 1 in 2025.
Tipene St Stephen’s co-principal Nathan Durie says it is a privilege to lead the next chapter of this kura.
The annual fees are set at $20,000 per year, covering boarding and meal costs, uniforms, and school and co-curricular trips.
