Former Warriors player and television personality Wairangi Koopu has been named in a major drug case, facing charges of cocaine possession and supply of a Class A drug.

His name suppression lapsed on Wednesday, revealing he was charged in October.

The offences carry a penalty of up to 14 years in prison.

Koopu played over 150 games for the Warriors between 1999 and 2008 and was part of the team’s 2002 NRL Grand Final loss.

He also represented the New Zealand Kiwis and Māori rugby league teams.

Since retiring, he has worked in television, hosting The Crowd Goes Wild and The Road to Te Matatini.

Koopu has yet to enter a plea.
