Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred has significantly impacted Southeast Queensland and Northeast New South Wales, bringing heavy rainfall, destructive winds, and widespread disruptions.
The storm made landfall on Saturday evening, crossing near Sandstone Point and Bribie Island before moving inland between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
Affected suburbs include Caboolture, Ningi, Burpengary, Beerburrum, and Morayfield, with the danger zone extending from Noosa to Brisbane’s central business district.
As of Sunday morning, more than 330,000 properties in Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales were without power.
Vicky Rose, General Manager of the Nerang Community Centre, says Cyclone Alfred remains dangerous. “Stay indoors and be vigilant. Flooding is everywhere. If it’s flooded, forget it! Check in on our kaumātua and stay safe.”
The storm is expected to bring up to 700mm of rain and destructive gusts throughout today, posing significant hazards such as flash flooding and damaging winds.
