The BNZ Breakers are managing early-season injury setbacks, with guard Preston Le Gassick and wing Josiah-Jordan James yet to take the court in NBL27.

Le Gassick is recovering from a nerve impingement affecting his neck and shoulder, while James is three weeks into rehabilitation for a hamstring injury. James is expected to be assessed at the four-to-six-week stage, while there is currently no firm return date for Le Gassick.

Breakers President of Basketball Dillon Boucher says the priority is ensuring both players make safe and sustainable returns, with the club’s medical and performance team overseeing their rehabilitation.

The absence of James has left the Breakers without one of their imports through the opening rounds, although Mo King has been brought into the squad as injury cover. The club will continue monitoring both James’ recovery and the import market while maintaining a next-man-up approach.

The Breakers also see 22-year-old Le Gassick as an important part of their longer-term plans, with the Tall Blacks candidate currently on a 1+1 contract.

The injury update comes as the Breakers turn their attention to Adelaide on Sunday evening, with tip-off at 7pm NZT on October 4. It begins a run of five consecutive road games before the Breakers return to Spark Arena on October 30, where they will again face the Adelaide 36ers.
