Two people have been arrested after a series of alleged intentional damage incidents in Tauranga, with Police responding to reports of vehicles and other property being damaged.
Police say the incidents occurred across the city and resulted in officers launching enquiries to identify those allegedly responsible.
The arrests are the latest example of Police responding to deliberate property damage in the Bay of Plenty, with charges now putting the allegations before the courts.
POLICE MAKE ARRESTS
According to Police, officers investigated reports of intentional damage before locating and arresting two people believed to have been involved.
Charges have subsequently been laid.
As the matter is now before the courts, the allegations against those charged remain unproven and they are entitled to the presumption of innocence.
Police have continued to encourage members of the public to report suspicious behaviour and provide information that may assist investigations into offending affecting vehicles, homes and businesses.
PROPERTY CRIME HITS COMMUNITIES HARD
While intentional damage can sometimes be dismissed as lower-level offending, the consequences can be significant for the people left dealing with it.
A damaged vehicle can prevent someone getting to work, kura or medical appointments. Damage to a business can leave owners facing repair bills, lost trading time and insurance costs.
