Kia ora e te whānau, okay guys, Olivia Dean is officially going to be the first artist to open the new Western Springs Bowl, with the venue redevelopment led by Brent Eccles and Campbell Smith. How bloody cool is that aye!!
I’m a huge Olivia fan and honestly have been for years. “Nice To Each Other” was literally my car ride home song on repeat, way before she went viral. She’s like sunshine, you know? It’s very rare to have that kind of wairua. I listen to a lot of Daryl Hall & Oates and I reckon there’s a similar DNA in her music, that warmth, soul and effortless groove.
Her coming to Aotearoa has had everyone hunting the depths of Facebook Marketplace for tickets, so her playing Western Springs feels sooo perfect aye. More tickets, more people get a chance to go, and the best part? Not one cent more than she wanted. Ticketmaster absolutely cooked everyone on the original Spark Arena show, you practically had to be a bloody millionaire to get a ticket. Olivia was one of the only artists who actually spoke up and did something about it.
No tiered pricing, no VIP sections, everyone equal, first in first served. Like the old days! Line up for hours and sprint to the front like a bunch of ning nongs. Honestly, I love that.
I literally cannot wait for this show. And hopefully by October it’ll be a bit warmer too, it’s spring after all, which feels very fitting for an Olivia Dean concert.
Gosh, I wish I knew her or someone on her team. I’ve written a song that I can only hear her singing. Putting it out to the universe now and praying I manifest it! I’ll update you fellas when that dream ever comes true.
