A major trans-Tasman operation targeting organised crime networks has resulted in the seizure of assault-style firearms, cash, alcohol and other illicit goods, as police on both sides of the Tasman intensified pressure on outlaw motorcycle gangs.

The coordinated enforcement action, carried out under Taskforce Morpheus, brought together New Zealand Police and Australian law enforcement agencies in a National Day of Action aimed at disrupting gang-linked criminal activity.

Police confirmed five arrests were made during the operation, while officers seized AR-15-style rifles, large amounts of cash, alcohol and other evidence linked to organised offending. The operation focused on dismantling the criminal infrastructure of outlaw motorcycle gangs operating across New Zealand and Australia.

Taskforce Morpheus is a long-running trans-Tasman partnership targeting organised crime groups involved in drug trafficking, firearms offending, money laundering and other serious criminal activity. The taskforce brings together police, border agencies and financial crime investigators from both countries to disrupt gang operations and remove criminal assets.

The latest action forms part of a wider crackdown on outlaw motorcycle gangs, with authorities carrying out search warrants, compliance checks and enforcement activity across multiple jurisdictions. Recent Taskforce Morpheus operations have resulted in dozens of arrests, hundreds of charges and the seizure of firearms, ammunition, drugs and cash.

Police say organised criminal groups remain a significant threat to community safety and will continue to be targeted through coordinated intelligence-led operations across the Tasman.
