Three Police staff are set to face charges following separate investigations linked to a rapid review of Police information security controls.
Police say two Auckland-based constabulary staff will appear in Manukau District Court over the coming days, each facing multiple charges of possessing an objectionable publication under the Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Act.
A third officer is expected to appear in a Wellington region court at a later date.
The staff members remain stood down from duty while the matters proceed through the courts.
The investigations followed a review of Police information security controls and included analysis of a significant volume of web activity.
Police say 22 cases have been investigated as part of the matter. Twelve have been resolved through disciplinary action or performance management, four people have resigned during the process, and three investigations remain ongoing.
The case places renewed attention on integrity, accountability and public trust within Police, particularly when alleged offending involves those sworn to uphold the law.
Police say the court process now limits what further information can be released.
