Former anti-apartheid protest leader John Minto is calling on New Zealanders to stand up for Palestinians in the way they stood with black South Africans.
Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa held rallies at the weekend called on the Government to stop turning its back on Israeli aggression, there was a brief vigil last night outside the Israeli Embassy in Wellington for the children killed in the lasts attacks.
At least 44 Palestinians including 15 children have been killed over the past few days after Israel’s caretaker prime minister Yair Lapid launched attacks on Islamic Jihad militants in Gaza and the West Bank in what is being seen by some commentators as an attempt to boost his security credentials ahead of an upcoming election.
Mr Minto says enough is enough.
“The suffering of these people is absolutely enormous and New Zealand has got to stop turning the other way. We’ve got to stand with the Palestinians in the way we stood with Black South Africans in the fight against apartheid,” he says.
Mr Minto says support for Palestinians is growing around the world as people recognise the occupation has turned into colonisation of Palestinian land.
