Aotearoa New Zealand will have two Deputy Prime Ministers with the role being split between NZ First Leader Winston Peters and ACT’s David Seymour.
Winston Peters will be DPM for the first half of the parliamentary term from Monday 27 November until 31 May 2024, with David Seymour taking over for the remainder of time until the 2026 elections.
Chrisptopher Luxon announced the Ministerial lineup Friday morning including the deputy leadership power share.
In addition Winston Peters will be Foreign Minister and David Seymour takes on the new role of Minister of Regulation.
The new Cabinet will be sworn in by the Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro on Monday. It has 20 members; 14 National ministers and five outside of cabinet, three ACT ministers and two outside, three New Zealand First ministers and one outside. Both NZ First and ACT have under secretary positions.
The Minister for Treaty Negotiations is National’s Paul Goldsmith who in 2021 told media that while colonisation may have been “traumatic” for Māori, overall it has had a positive effect.
