Auckland Emergency Management is beginning to scale back its Civil Defence Centre response after the region avoided the worst of Cyclone Vaianu.
Officials say Auckland came through the storm relatively well, with only 28 people needing shelter at Civil Defence Centres overnight.
As a result, several centres are now set to close throughout Sunday. Helensville War Memorial Hall will shut its doors at 2pm, followed by Shoesmith Hall in Warkworth later in the evening.
In central Auckland, the Ellen Melville Centre will begin standing down operations tonight, transitioning to a full closure on Monday morning.
Authorities say the decision reflects improving conditions across the region, but centres will remain on standby and can be reopened quickly if needed.
Two locations will continue operating overnight, with Ostend Hall on Waiheke Island and Wellsford Community Centre remaining open to support any residents who still require assistance.
Emergency management teams say they will continue monitoring conditions closely, urging Aucklanders to stay informed and prepared in case the situation changes.
