#hakinakina: BLUES STAR FACES TERMINAL CANCER DIAGNOSIS
Blues forward Cameron Suafoa has been told his cancer is terminal, delivering heartbreaking news for the rising rugby star and his whānau.
The 27-year-old, who has Ngāpuhi whakapapa, has been battling a rare form of cancer known as sarcoma, first diagnosed in 2023 before returning last year.
After undergoing multiple surgeries and treatment, Suafoa has now been informed his illness can no longer be cured, marking a devastating turn in his health journey.
The Auckland-based loose forward has been a standout for the Blues since debuting in 2022, also representing the Māori All Blacks and North Harbour.
Throughout his fight, Suafoa continued to show determination, at times balancing professional rugby with radiation treatment and recovery, before eventually stepping away from the game to focus on his health.
His battle has drawn strong support from teammates, fans and the wider rugby community, with many acknowledging his resilience and courage in the face of serious illness.
Despite earlier hopes of a return to rugby, including plans to rejoin the Blues environment during rehabilitation, his condition has now progressed beyond treatment.
Suafoa’s story has resonated widely across Aotearoa, highlighting both the physical and emotional toll of cancer, as well as the strength shown by those facing it.
Support continues to pour in for the young player and his whānau as the rugby community rallies around him during this difficult time.
