#breaking: Fire damages building in Ngongotahā near Rotorua

Emergency services have responded to a significant fire in Ngongotahā in the Bay of Plenty, with firefighters working to contain the blaze and prevent it spreading to nearby properties.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews were called to the incident after reports of a building fire in the Ngongotahā area, west of Rotorua. Multiple appliances attended the scene as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.

Initial reports indicated flames and thick smoke were visible from the building as crews began their response. Firefighters focused on containing the blaze and protecting surrounding structures while assessing the extent of the damage.

Emergency responders remained at the scene while crews worked through the fire and carried out checks to ensure the area was safe. There were no immediate reports of serious injuries linked to the incident.

Authorities say the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and investigations will take place to determine how it started.

Ngongotahā sits on the western edge of Rotorua near Lake Rotorua and includes a mix of residential, commercial and light industrial properties, meaning emergency crews often prioritise preventing fires from spreading to nearby buildings.
