#hakinakina: Caleb Clarke Hat-Trick Powers Blues Past Crusaders At Eden Park
The Blues have delivered a statement performance in Super Rugby Pacific, defeating the Crusaders 29–13 at Eden Park with All Blacks winger Caleb Clarke scoring a hat-trick in a dominant display.
The Auckland side came into the match under pressure after suffering two narrow losses earlier in the season but responded with an energetic start that set the tone for the night. Clarke struck early, crossing twice in the opening minutes as the Blues surged ahead and forced the Crusaders onto the back foot.
The home side continued to control the tempo through the first half, building a strong advantage with attacking pressure and disciplined defence. Their early momentum helped them establish a 19–3 lead after just over 20 minutes, putting the defending champions under sustained pressure.
The Crusaders fought their way back into the contest before halftime through tries to hooker Codie Taylor and first five-eighth Rivez Reihana, reducing the deficit and keeping the match within reach.
However, the Blues regained control in the second half when Clarke completed his hat-trick, extending the hosts’ lead and effectively sealing the result. The powerful winger’s finishing proved the difference in a match that showcased the Blues’ attacking potential.
A late penalty added further points as the Blues closed out the victory, ending a frustrating run of recent losses and giving their Super Rugby campaign renewed momentum.
The win also ended a recent stretch of Crusaders success at Eden Park and briefly lifted the Blues back toward the top end of the competition standings as the race for playoff positions begins to intensify.
For the Blues, the performance will be remembered for Clarke’s explosive display on the wing, providing a reminder of the finishing power that has made him one of the most dangerous attacking players in New Zealand rugby.
