#hakinakina: Black Caps Smash South Africa to Reach T20 World Cup Final
The Black Caps have powered into the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after a dominant nine-wicket victory over South Africa, highlighted by a record-breaking innings from opener Finn Allen.
Allen delivered one of the most explosive knocks in the history of the tournament, blasting an unbeaten century from just 33 balls to lead New Zealand to victory in the semifinal. The innings is the fastest century ever scored at a men’s T20 World Cup and dismantled South Africa’s bowling attack.
South Africa entered the match as one of the tournament’s strongest teams and had been unbeaten heading into the semifinal. Batting first, they posted around 169 runs after early wickets slowed their momentum, although a late push from Marco Jansen helped lift the total.
The Black Caps chase was relentless from the opening over. Allen and fellow opener Tim Seifert launched an aggressive assault during the powerplay, racing to a large opening partnership that effectively took the match away from South Africa.
Seifert contributed 58 runs in the partnership before departing, but by that stage the outcome was already heavily in New Zealand’s favour. Allen continued the charge, finishing with a remarkable 100 not out that included a barrage of boundaries and sixes.
New Zealand reached the target with more than seven overs remaining, sealing one of the most comprehensive victories of the tournament and booking a place in the final.
The win marks only the second time the Black Caps have reached a T20 World Cup final and keeps alive hopes of claiming their first title in the shortest format of the game.
They will now face the winner of the second semifinal between India and England in the championship match.
For New Zealand supporters, Allen’s extraordinary innings will likely be remembered as one of the most destructive performances ever seen on the world stage and a defining moment in the Black Caps’ run to the final.
