#hakinakina All Blacks Coach Scott Robertson Reportedly Set to Be Replaced After Tough Review
Reports from New Zealand media today suggest that All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson is set to be axed from his role, just two years into the job, following a damning review of the team’s performance.
The New Zealand Herald and other outlets say an announcement could be made as early as today that Robertson will depart as head coach, with pressure mounting from within the team and across the wider rugby community.
The move comes after widespread internal frustrations with the All Blacks’ results over the past season, including inconsistent performances and a mixed record since Robertson took charge following the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Reports say senior players and support staff raised concerns about coaching culture, strategy and leadership during a recent review.
The review is believed to have been highly critical of the direction of the team, highlighting issues such as defending lapses, attacking inconsistency and mixed results on the field. Two of Robertson’s assistants have also left in recent seasons, adding to the sense of instability within the coaching set-up.
Although Robertson’s contract was originally set to run through the 2027 Rugby World Cup, speculation now suggests that Highlanders and All Blacks XV coach Jamie Joseph could be a favourite to step into the top job.
The All Blacks face a big year ahead, with the inaugural Nations Championship scheduled for July and a tough tour of South Africa on the calendar later this season.
New Zealand Rugby has been approached for comment, but at the time of reporting had not confirmed details of any coaching changes.
