#regional WATER-RELATED INCIDENT AT LAKE TIKITAPU, BLUE LAKE
Emergency services responded to a water-related incident at Lake Tikitapu, also known locally as Blue Lake, over the weekend. Authorities have confirmed that the incident resulted in a death, and the matter has now been referred to the Coroner. Details about the victim have not yet been released.
Lake Tikitapu is a well-known and popular lake near Rotorua, famed for its striking blue waters and wide range of recreational activities including swimming, boating, trout fishing and watersports such as water skiing and jet boating.
On Saturday, emergency services were called to the lake following reports of someone in difficulty in the water. First responders attended the scene and, despite efforts to assist, the person sadly died. Police and rescue teams worked at the site, and the death is now being investigated as part of standard procedures.
Lake Tikitapu, sometimes referred to as Blue Lake, is one of the smaller lakes in the Rotorua district and is a cherished recreational destination for locals and visitors alike. Surrounded by bush and popular walking tracks, the lake also holds cultural connections and is often involved in local events and activities.
