Garner forget how to fact check, McCarten hoodwinks another ranter
So, when you are caught telling porkies the best thing is stop telling porkies – in fact stop spreading lies told to you by a man who clearly has an issue with getting the story straight. How do we know? Well we did the job a journalist would do – and Duncan Garner, should have known to ask – afterall he talks about his experience all the time.
So what did we ask? “Comments have been made by Union Leader, Matt McCarten, that he or his “union” filed 19 cases of “Personal Grievance” against the Manukau Urban Maori Authority. The link is found here: https://www.rova.nz/podcasts/duncan-garner-editor-in-chief-live/episodes/revealed-willie-jackson-and-labour-rocked-by-muma-bullying-claims
The comment made is “19 workers have taken the extraordinary step of filing grievances at the same time, after months of failed attempts to resolve the issues internally. “
Waatea is not asking for details of the claims – what we would like to confirm is 19 have or have not been filed.”
We put the same questions to both the Manukau Urban Maori Authority and the Employment Relations Authority – an ERA spokesperson told Waatea that
“The Employment Relations Authority cannot comment on specific cases before the Authority. If parties are involved in any proceedings, you can ask them to provide you with information if they wish to do so.”
So we checked in with the Deputy CEO of MUMA, who said:
“We have received no notification from MBIE that any PG’s have been lodged against the Manukau Urban Māori Authority.” Mike Tukaki, Deputy CEO of MUMA.
In other words, Matt McCarten lied to Duncan Garner and Garner then published the lie – then went on to verbally tell the lie repeatedly on his podcast.
In other words, no 19 cases were filed, no 19 Wahine Maori employees filed claims via Matt McCartens union – a union with less than 19 members, we would point out.
So who is the fibber? Or just both of them caught up in a web of lies of their own making.
