Homicide Investigation Underway After Fatal Stabbing in Mt Wellington
Police have launched a full-scale homicide investigation after a man died following a stabbing on Sunday in Mt Wellington. The victim reportedly got into an altercation with occupants of a hatchback on Harris Road just before midday on 5 December 2025. He then walked or was taken to a medical centre on Lunn Avenue around 12:15 pm, suffering multiple stab wounds. The man was rushed to Auckland Hospital but died later that afternoon. Police confirm he has passed away.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard of Auckland City CIB says the vehicle believed involved in the incident was located in nearby Ellerslie on Laud Avenue.
Two scenes have been cordoned off – at the scene of the altercation in Harris Road, and at Laud Avenue – as investigators carry out forensic examinations and interview people in the area.
Residents of Mt Wellington have been told to expect a heightened police presence over the coming days. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage is urged to contact police immediately, quoting case number 251205/6107.
The victim and suspects reportedly left the scene after the stabbing – meaning police are still working to identify and locate those involved. The public are being asked to help: any information – regardless of how minor it may seem – could help bring clarity.
