#indigenous #global: Sámi Representatives Advocate for Stronger Arctic Cultural Protections
Karasjok, Sápmi
Sámi cultural organisations from Norway, Sweden, and Finland have raised concerns about the rapid expansion of Arctic development, including mining, road-building, and energy projects affecting reindeer migration routes.
Sámi leaders say cultural survival is linked to the protection of land, ice, and traditional practices. They argue that current consultation systems do not fully protect Sámi rights under national and international frameworks.
Calls are growing for stronger participation in planning processes and recognition of Sámi ecological knowledge in Arctic governance.
