Māori Artists Feature in Major Oceania Exhibition at The Met
Māori and Pasifika artists have taken centre stage at The Metropolitan Museum of Art with the reopening of its Arts of Oceania galleries. More than 650 works from across the Pacific are now on display, continuing the legacy opened by the historic Te Māori exhibition decades ago.
A delegation of Māori artists attended the reopening, emphasising that Māori art is not a relic of history but a living tradition carried by carvers, weavers and contemporary practitioners. The revamped galleries highlight Indigenous voices and cultural leadership in one of the world’s largest museums.
