This week,  Ātea, a Māori-owned digital infrastructure organisation, has partnered with CentrePort Wellington to launch New Zealand’s first Māori-built commercial private 5G network.
This live network, not a pilot, but full commercial infrastructure, uses Māori spectrum rights to power one of the country’s most complex and nationally critical freight gateways. It promises faster operations, safer systems, and visibility across the port, setting a new benchmark for Māori leadership in digital innovation and national infrastructure.
