#talkback Should fireworks be banned?
Well, NZ First thinks so – what do you think? New Zealand First has introduced a Member’s Bill that will ban the public sale and use of fireworks across New Zealand. A petition has been presented calling for them to go by a Pet movement – is it time? Im a dog owner, im against them for private use but ok in public settings. Now, I have 83,000 followers on Facebook so I thought id ask them what they thought – well 8800 plus engaged, 463 interacted and 256 specifically responded and it appeared to be a 60/40 split – 60 in favour and 40 against – Carol said “I work with children and I have asked quite a few of them, why we have fireworks on the 5th of November, and the reply is always “Because it’s fireworks day”, they have know idea about Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot in 1606. We should be using fireworks to celebrate Matariki.” While Lauree said “Yes except for organised public displays. And for the latter perhaps drones would be better environmentally.”
