Maako Drops Debut Single ‘Who & Why,’ Exploring Identity and Resilience

Aotearoa musician Maako has unveiled her debut single Who & Why—a powerful waiata delving into colonisation, identity, and resilience.

The track marks her first release under independent label Sick Wit It Crew.

Maako says she’s compelled to write whenever something meaningful happens around her, with her music shaped by those moments of inspiration.

“If I’m seeing something or I’m experiencing it, I can’t help but put a pen to paper, so write down the things I’m feeling and seeing, and the only way I can really express or share that is through my music,” says Maako.
