Lani Daniels Scheduled To Defend World Title In Germany
Northlands’ own IBF World Light Heavyweight champion Lani Daniels is scheduled to defend her world title against mandatory challenger Sarah Scheurich on 6th of December in Germany.
Lani Daniels will defend her world title on 6th of December at Lambert Arena in Göppingen, Germany against Sarah Scheurich. This will be her first world title defence since September 2024, when she defeated Nigerian boxer Bolatito Oluwole in Hamilton. It’s been over a year since her world title defence, Daniels is well overdue to defend her world title.
Daniels has recently come off the 3rd defeat of her career against the baddest women in boxing, Claressa Shields, in an undisputed world heavyweight title fight in Detroit, Michigan, in America. Since this was Shields’ world title defence, Daniels got to keep her world title. Now it is time for Daniels to focus on her own weight division, the Light Heavyweight division.
Daniels has been in fight camp for a while as she has been preparing for the inevitable world title defence. Currently, the plan is that Daniels will leave New Zealand for Germany on the 30th of November. New Zealand has a good boxing history in Germany, with Northland’s Daniella Smith becoming the first ever IBF World women’s champion in Germany against Jennifer Retzke in 2010. Joseph Parker also won his first major regional title in Germany in his 8th professional fight when he won the interim WBA – PABA heavyweight title against Brazilian Marcelo Nascimento on the Wladimir Klitschko vs Alex Leapai unified world heavyweight title undercard.
This will be the third major fight in New Zealand professional boxing history to take place in Germany. A win for Lani Daniels will not only hold her position as the current best Light Heavyweight boxer in the women’s division, but also maintain an undefeated streak for New Zealanders in Germany.
Daniels’ opponent, Sarah Scheurich, is undefeated with 6 wins and 4 of those wins coming by way of knockout. She has not yet faced a significant opponent yet as all of her wins were against people with bad records or fewer than 1 fight. However, she is highly ranked, holding the ranking of 1st in the IBF, 1st in the WBO, 2nd in the WBA and 3rd on Boxrec.
Daniels will come into this fight as the heavy favourite, however, Scheurich will have the hometown advantage, and with Daniels flying in a week before the fight, Daniels will be heavily disadvantaged with a heavy amount of jetlag.
The fight will be broadcast live on DAZN.
