The Auckland Council, working with Tāmaki Makaurau iwi/hapū and Screen Auckland, has approved changes so that many short-term film projects on public and culturally significant sites will no longer need resource consents. Instead they’ll go through a film permit process.
The aim is to ensure mana whenua are involved, that tikanga and culture are respected, while making filming easier. Also, more sites and places of significance are being added to schedules that require cultural oversight.
