This year marks 50 years since the first Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, born from the 1972 Māori Language Petition and the vision of activists and educators who fought to have te reo taught in schools.

    Radio Waatea is Auckland’s only Māori radio station that provides an extensive bi-lingual broadcast to its listeners. Based at Nga Whare Waatea marae in Mangere, it is located in the middle of the biggest Māori population in Aotearoa.
