Regulatory Standards Bill 2025’s mother-of-all-budgets: Tina Ngata
International Treaties expert Tina Ngata told the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee bill, that the Regulatory Standards Bill is being tauted to the New Zealand public as economic liberation, in the same way that the 1990s Ruth Richardson mother of all budgets was sold.
The removal of subsidies and price supports led to decreased farm incomes, which in turn impacted local businesses that served the agricultural sector. This led to business closures and job losses, further depressing the local economy.
Ngata says it tethered them to offshore corporations that we are still in place today.
Submissions on the Regulatory Standards Bill continue until the end of the week.
