Download AudioTe Puawānanga, MOTAT’s science and tech centre, has been crowned International Exhibition of the Year at the Museums + Heritage Awards in London.
The Auckland-based centre beat out global heavyweights — including Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum — for its powerful blend of Mātauranga Māori and Western science.
Designed with Māori educators, artists, and tohunga, Te Puawānanga brings pūrākau, tikanga and interactive STEM experiences together — re-engaging thousands of tamariki in its first year.
Pita Turei says tamariki seeing themselves as scientists, grounded in matauranga Māori was the goal.
