Cross-Party “People’s Committee” to Revisit Pay Equity Law
Dame Marilyn Waring has launched a “people’s select committee” to independently review the Government’s recent pay equity amendments — with support from former MPs across the political spectrum.
The committee includes representatives from National, Labour, New Zealand First, and the Greens, all working pro bono.
The group will revisit 600 past submissions and re-invite 33 organisations whose voices were left out when the legislation was passed under urgency.
Former Labour MP Nanaia Mahuta, a member of the committee, says it’s a different approach, but a necessary one.
Public hearings will begin on the 11th of August.
