In a Statement, online, the Kiingitanga announced the departure of Ngira Simmonds:
“The Kiingitanga acknowledges the service of The Venerable Ngira Simmonds, who served as Chief of Staff and Private Secretary to Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII and recently Te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono i te po.
Kiingitanga spokesperson Rukumoana Schaafhausen says Mr. Simmonds performed the role of Rangatiki for Kiingi Tuheitia with dedication and devotion.
“Ngira was committed to upholding the mana of Te Kiingitanga, which was evident in all the work he undertook. We remain grateful for his service and respect his wishes to spend time now focusing on his family.”
Mr. Simmonds served the Maaori monarchy from 2020 until 7 May 2025.”
