Te Arikinui Mourns the Loss of HRH Prince David Kawānanakoa of Hawaii

Te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono i te po mourns the passing of His Royal Highness Prince David Kawānanakoa of Hawaii on May 1. Te Arikinui recalls his friendship with her late father, Kingi Tuheitia, and her recent visit to Honolulu.

Prince David was instrumental in signing the Tūrama Ariki Declaration, which seeks to unite Pacific leaders on climate change and economic development. Te Arikinui extends her condolences to his wife, Maria, his brother, Prince Quentin, and the royal family.

To honour his legacy, Hawaiian Governor Josh Green has ordered the U.S. and Hawaii state flags to be flown at half-mast at state offices until sunset on May 9, with a memorial service yet to be announced.
