Waititi: Te Pāti Māori Not Linked to Foodcourt Confrontation
Te Pāti Māori co-leader Rawiri Waititi says the party has no connection to a confrontation between former list member Pere Huriwai-Seger and NZ First Minister Casey Costello.
Last week, the two had a heated exchange in a Wellsford food court. Costello called the police, saying she felt unsafe.
Waititi says the media is trying to smear Te Pāti Māori by linking Huriwai-Seger to the party, as seen in other stories since their 2023 re-election.
“You have a look at what happened with Manurewa Marae, the Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency, Te Whānau o Waipareira, they found absolutely nothing, absolutely nothing, and they will continue to go on the hunt for the Māoris because it’s the easiest thing for them to do,” says Waititi.
