NZ First co-leader Shane Jones says the Defence Force’s $12 billion funding boost could fuel a new campaign idea ahead of the 2026 election.
NZ First deputy leader Shane Jones suggests the Defence Force’s $12 billion funding boost could inspire a new campaign idea for the 2026 election.
Defence Minister Judith Collins announced the pre-budget spend, focusing on recruitment and modernising equipment. Jones aims to create a national service pipeline for youth, either military or community-based.
He acknowledges opposition from figures like ex-Prime Minister Helen Clarke but insists peace has a price. “If you oppose this aspiration, vote against it next year,” Jones said.
