The NZ Defence Force is set for its biggest boost in over 20 years, with a $12 billion funding package over the next four years.
Defence Minister Judith Collins says the $9 billion increase will modernise the military—covering recruitment, new weapons, surveillance, and special ops gear.
Around $2 billion will go toward new helicopters, and ageing frigates Te Kaha and Te Mana will be phased out.
Other investments include long-range drones, cyber security, anti-tank missiles, and better housing for personnel.
It’s the coalition’s first major pre-Budget announcement.
