Tamihere slams Whānau Ora funding changes
Whānau Ora CEO John Tamihere says the reshuffling of Whānau Ora funding is politically motivated and an attack on Māori initiatives.
Tomorrow, the Whānau Ora tender will be announced, redistributing funding and impacting Māori and Pasifika health service providers.
Tamihere says the Government, not Māori, is responsible for burning bridges between the two.
“I guarantee you hundreds of thousands of dollars that it is pulled for political reasons from us. See, when you get persecuted for being a Māori, persecuted for being a member of an organized political party in this country called Te Pāti Māori, this is totalitarianism. You know, white people would never accept it,” says Tamihere.
John Tamihere says the current government is one of the most ugliest in New Zealand’s history and criticizes Māori ministers Shane Reti and Tama Potaka for failing to protect Whānau Ora and other Māori health initiatives.
