New Auckland Police training base to boost force
Auckland will open a new Police training base, boosting frontline officer numbers.
Associate Police Minister Casey Costello says the facility will recruit and train quality officers from the country’s largest city, supplementing training at the Police College in Porirua.
The National and New Zealand First coalition agreement commits to increasing frontline Police by at least 500 officers, with $191 million allocated in last year’s Budget for recruitment and training.
Costello says the investment speeds up recruitment and gets officers on the streets faster.
The Auckland base will also support senior training courses and may serve other agencies.
Costello says this move proves the Government is backing Police and strengthening law and order nationwide.
