Ahuwhenua 2025 Beef and Sheep finalist announced
Farms in Te Tairāwhiti and Te Tai Tokerau will battle it out to determine the best Māori beef and sheep farm in Aotearoa.
The Ahuwhenua Awards 2025 beef and sheep finalists were announced on Wednesday at Parliament, with Whangaroa Ngaiotonga Trust in northern Whangaruru and Tawapata South Incorporated’s Onenui Station named as this year’s finalists.
Te Tairāwhiti MP Cushla Tangaere-Manuel says that while the tikanga Māori aspects of the hui took longer than the announcement itself, the excitement from the finalists was palpable.
“Some really excited whanau in the room. They were really extremely pleased to make the cut. And so now all I need is a ticket to the awards Dale, and I can see who actually wins, hint hint, anyone listening.
The Ahuwhenua Trophy is the most prestigious award for Māori agriculture and was inaugurated in 1933 by Sir Apirana Ngata and Governor-General Lord Bledisloe.
The farms will be judged in April, with the winner announced in June.
